Phoenix College To Show Appreciation To Local Neighbors with "Celebrate Community Day"

(College Partners with Phoenix Rescue Mission for Food Drive)

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 14, 2003) – Phoenix College has planned a special day for one of its most valuable resources – the local community. On Saturday, Oct. 25 beginning at 9:30 a.m. the college will show its appreciation to its fellow friends, families and neighbors by hosting Celebrate Community Day, a free event for the local community.

Celebrate Community Day will be filled with live music by salsa and R&B band Carmela Y Mas, giveaways, games for children, student club and academic demonstrations, and campus tours. The day will culminate with a tailgate party with free food, music by the PC Pep Band and tickets to the Bears football game against Dixie College, which kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at Hoy Field.

Since the 1920’s, nearby neighborhoods around the campus have supported the college as students, partners and financial donors. As the original college in the Maricopa Community College District, Phoenix College wants to reinforce its commitment to deliver quality academic programs and career training desired by local employers. The college has also been a valuable resource for cultural entertainment with its wide array of thought-provoking lectures, enriching musical concerts and theatrical productions.

"We hope to make more nearby residents aware of our academic, career training and personal fulfillment course offerings, as well as the cultural, social and intellectual opportunities we make available," said Institutional Advancement director, Mike Murphy. "We truly desire to be a valuable community resource to Central Phoenix families, whatever their goals and needs may be."

Phoenix College will partner with the Phoenix Rescue Mission for a canned food drive. Representatives from the organization will be on-sight collecting canned and non-perishable items.

Celebrate Community Day is free and open to public of all ages. For more information, please call (602) 285-7453.
