JAM SESSION: The Latest Craze at Phoenix College

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 20, 2003)—If you’re looking for a welcoming place to showcase your musical talents, have a few extra minutes in between classes or just need an upbeat environment to take an afternoon break, the Phoenix College Music Department’s Jam Session is the place to be.

Every Thursday at 2 p.m. in room M104, PC’s Jazz Improvisation class opens their doors to faculty, staff, students and anyone else who wants to participate or attend their foot tappin’ Jam Session. Students open the session with classical jazz, but the format can easily be turned to blues, rock or even funk. . . there are no limits!

"The Jam Session is a great way to build community on campus," said Milas Yoes, Program Director of Music at PC. "It gives people on campus an outlet to experience music in a smoke-free, alcohol-free environment."

If you don’t play an instrument but love to sing to the music, please feel free to do so! Jam Session players always appreciate vocals as accompaniment to their tunes. Can’t sing or play an instrument, that’s OK too because audience members are a key part in pulling the Jam Session together.

Also, when cooler weather rolls in, poets, musicians and audience members can strut their stuff during the Poetry Slam/Jazz Jam. This outdoors, improv style event will be a spin off of the Music Department’s Jam Session.

For further information about the Jam Session, or the upcoming Poetry Slam/Jazz Jam, please contact Milas Yoes at (602) 285-7271.
