
WHAT:
The Phoenix College
community will light up the night with illuminating candles to celebrate
an ancient Mexican Christmas tradition Las Posadas.
This tradition commemorates the historical journey made by Mary and Joseph
from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of lodging many years ago. Las Posadas
is usually celebrated during the nine days that proceed Christmas Day
with a candlelight procession and it traditionally ends with food, drink,
dance and the breaking of piñatas.

The candlelight procession will begin at the Phoenix College Library and
end at the Hannelly Center Bears Den Patio

WHO:
The event is organized
by the Phoenix College Foreign Language Department and students of Club
A.L.E. to help promote awareness and understanding of the Hispanic culture.

Las Posadas celebration is free and open to the public. Members of the
community are encouraged to come out and enjoy a festive night of Mariachi
music, caroling, piñatas, theatre and refreshments.
