More than 35 Health Organizations Promote Wellness at Phoenix College Health Fair

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Nov. 6, 2003)—Phoenix College and Wellness Maricopa will present a two-day wellness fair on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Phoenix College’s Sophomore Square. More than 35 vendors will participate in this event, offering discounted and free services to attendees for the purpose of promoting wellness in the community.

Free services offered at the Wellness Fair include blood pressure tests, body fat calculations, blood glucose testing and chair massages. Also, Healthwaves will provide free flu shots to attendees covered through the following insurance companies: BCBS of AZ, Pacificare, Secure Horizona or Medicare B (must bring insurance card). Those not insured by the above mentioned providers can receive a flu shot for $20.

During the Wellness Fair, The American Red Cross will schedule appointments for a blood drive held on the Phoenix College campus on Tuesday, Nov. 25. Also, Wellness Fair attendees will have the opportunity to sign up to receive a mammogram at a later date and TeleMedco will provide skin cancer screenings for a nominal fee.

A few of the participating Wellness Fair vendors include: Alcoholics Anonymous, Blue Cross Blue Shield of AZ, Care Entrée, Child Care Resources and Referrals, Concentra Medical Centers, Fry’s Pharmacy, Phoenix College Massage Therapy Program, Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine & Acupuncture, Southwest Prostate Cancer Foundation and Weight Watchers at Work.

Providing entertainment during the wellness fair will be Phoenix College’s Pep and Jazz Band.
