International Student Center Presents "Muslims in Arizona and the U.S."


(PHOENIX, Ariz., Nov. 10, 2003) – The International Student Center will present the first of three lectures entitled: "Muslims in Arizona and the U.S." on Thursday, Nov. 13 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Willo Room – Osborn Campus.

The event will feature two guest lecturers, Azra Hussain, Director of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona and Nazli Currim, Refugee Coordinator of the American Muslim Women’s Association.

Azra Hussain was born and raised in Kuwait and moved to Arizona 22 years ago where she now lives with her husband and four children. Hussain also serves as the Youth & Education coordinator and is a member on the Board of Trustees of the Islamic Center of the Northeast Valley in Scottsdale. In addition, she volunteers with several organizations throughout the Valley.

Nazli Currim was born in Bombay, India and migrated to Karachi, Pakistan after the Partition. For almost 22 years she was an instructor at the Karachi American School for overseas Americans, teaching preschool and kindergarten classes. Currim is also active on the Good Earth Montessori school board association.
