While "Imagining and Planning Our Future"
through a college and community strategic planning initiative, Phoenix College
is also updating its Facilities Master Plan for how the college will look
in that future.
At a recent campus meeting, Phoenix College President Corina Gardea unveiled the seven strategic initiatives which will guide everything from budgeting and academic programming to staffing and how current and proposed buildings will be utilized. The college's Strategic Planning Council will next enlist other college and community volunteers to develop action plans for implementing each initiative. The seven initiatives are summarized as follows: · Commitment to Employee Excellence focuses on developing quality college leaders. Employee innovation and professional growth will be encouraged. · Leveraging Technology will address staying current with advances in technology and its applications in an academic environment. A priority will be ensuring that relevant industry standards are met in all areas of teaching and instructional support. · Facilities Improvement will look at enhancing the physical campus environment to reflect the needs of students, staff and the community as it relates to building structures, landscaping, transportation, parking and safety. · Partnering with Business and Community will place a premium on fostering and expanding strategic relationships with the community, schools and universities, businesses, and public and private agencies to identify and respond to current and future needs. · Promoting Student Success will encourage the college to provide competent and responsive support services and resources to students. Phoenix College will develop and maintain innovative, accessible academic programs and educational services that strengthen student success and address community needs. · Optimizing Financial Resources will maximize stewardship of existing and future resources and will review, strengthen, and streamline the fiscal process. It will also encourage the college to identify new resources. · Facilitating Vital Change will ultimately turn these goals into a reality. The college commits itself to creating an atmosphere that encourages innovation, vision, ideas, and entrepreneurial service. The architectural firm of Orcutt & Winslow also presented the updated Facilities Master Plan, which addresses the challenges of future growth in an essentially landlocked location. Major growth issues include expanding parking, classroom and faculty office space, one-stop service for student registration, and creating more amenities to promote student interaction. Both plans are the result of a four-month process involving input from
faculty, staff, students, administration, alumni and community members
gleaned from nineteen four-hour facilitated planning sessions. |
