Foreign Language Faculty Chair Honored for Leadership, Innovation and Service

(PHOENIX, Ariz., May 11, 2005) - Twelve women from the Maricopa Community Colleges have been named "Women of Distinction" for their leadership and service for 2005. Dr. Virginia Foster, Phoenix College Foreign Language instructor and department chair was among this elite group of women.

The Women's Leadership Group, which provides for the continuous development of a strong and supportive work environment for the diverse women of the Maricopa Community Colleges, sponsors the event annually. Recipients of the "Women of Distinction" award demonstrate a true passion and commitment to leadership, innovation, service and contribution to women.

Since 1968, Dr. Foster has clearly demonstrated significant success and achievement in these areas as instructor, department chair and colleague. She has been instrumental in developing new courses and programs. Additionally, she has transitioned the Foreign Language Department to offer short term, on-line and hybrid courses. Her undying commitment to her students and staff has nurtured a number of programs including study abroad endeavors, as well as community bilingual courses.

Her colleagues describe her as a "dynamic and strong leader," making her most deserving of this award.
