by: Christy Skeen
Seven
Phoenix College softball players will move on to the next level and play
for Division I schools next year. These seven athletes were awarded scholarships
for their athletic ability and academic success.
They include:
Delane Oscarson outfielder Coastal Carolina University
Diana Mendez infielder Coastal Carolina University
Chrissy Mensoir outfielder Mesa State University
Sonia Medina catcher University of North Texas
Denise Emmons catcher University of Texas El Paso
Sierra Hannum outfielder University of Texas El Paso
Deanna Camacho utility University of Texas El Paso
Outfielder Sierra Hannum reflects
on her experience at Phoenix College.
"I have had the most
amazing time playing at Phoenix College," said Hannum. "I have
loved everything about PC. The relationships I have made with these girls
will last forever. The program and school were very personal and intimate
and a perfect place for me. I wish it was a four-year program and I will
be sad to leave. Overall, playing for such a strong and well-known program
was a privilege for e me and helped me become a more confident player."
Deanna "Dee" Camacho
will attend the University of Texas El Paso in the fall. Although she
describes her experience at Phoenix College as "awesome," she
is eager to begin her next step.
"I hope to accomplish
a great season with UTEP," she said. "I also hope to graduate
with a masters degree in sports medicine."
Phoenix
College Softball Coach and Womens Athletic Director, Heinz Mueller
refers to these athletes as a "class act."
"It has been an extreme
pleasure coaching and supervising these young ladies over the last two
years," he said. "On the field they have been part of a team
that has had over 100 victories and off the field their G.P.A. has been
no lower than a 3.4. They have represented Phoenix College very well and
have been a class act. I will miss them dearly.
As these eight admirable athletes
move on to the next level, one thing is for certain they will always
remain a PC Bear at heart.
Congratulations and good luck!
