Celebrate Women's History Month with Phoenix College Acting President

WHAT:

In celebration of Women's History Month, the Phoenix College Adult Re-Entry Center, AWARE Club, Student Life and Leadership, Honors Program and the Liberal Arts Department will present Women in Leadership, a lecture featuring Dr. Anna Solley, Acting President of Phoenix College, as well as a student panel.

Dr. Solley has been a leader within the Maricopa Community College District for 28 years, serving in various capacities ranging from Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs to Founding Dean of Instruction and Student Services.

Her inspiring lecture will focus on Women in Leadership. As a dynamic speaker, her presentation is a must-see. Dr. Solley will share her reflections and experiences with leadership, as well as address the role of women in leadership in today's society.

WHO:

Prior to accepting the assignment as acting president of Phoenix College, Dr. Anna Solley served as Maricopa's Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. She has worked in the Maricopa Colleges for 28 years, starting in 1976 as Director of the Learning Assistance Center at Glendale Community College. From 1981 to 1989, she served as founding faculty member and division chair for Communications and Fine Arts at South Mountain Community College. She served as founding Dean of Instruction and Student Services at Estrella Mountain Community College from 1989 to 2000. She has also been a kindergarten, special education, and elementary school teacher.

Dr. Solley earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education, a Master's in Special Education, and Doctor of Education in Higher and Adult Education at Arizona State University. She is a member of the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education, the University of Phoenix Campus Advisory Council, the Arizona Association for Chicanos in Higher Education, the Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center Advisory Board, Friends of Small Business, the Tempe Rotary Club Board of Directors, and Women's Leadership Group CEC Representative and Mentor. She is Past President of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs. She also serves as a Consultant-Evaluator for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and as the Maricopa Representative for the League for Innovation in the Community College. She was recognized in 1999 as the Outstanding Woman Leader at Estrella Mountain Community College and as an Outstanding Maricopa Employee by the Maricopa Foundation.
