One Book Arizona Kick-Off

(PHOENIX, Ariz., March 2, 2005) ---- Phoenix College will host a FREE signature One Book Arizona event to promote the significant statewide reading program. One Book Arizona celebrates reading in the state of Arizona by encouraging the reading and exploration of two different books pertaining to the same historical event.

In an effort to bring communities together through literature and the shared experience of reading, Phoenix College will host a celebration of the kick-off of One Book Arizona. Authors Lisa Michaels and Brad Dimock will be present to discuss their work.

The two books that have been chosen, Grand Ambition (fiction) and Sunk With Out a Sound (non-fiction), are both concerning the same piece of history. It is an adventurous, mystery/biography of newlyweds who vanished on their 1928 honeymoon river trip through the Grand Canyon.

This statewide program is hosted by libraries, schools, museums, the media, commercial vendors, the authors, the public and other allied institutions to unite our communities through book discussions and signing events. It is a profound opportunity for Phoenix College students and faculty to get involved in this shared experience of the young lovers' journey.

Phoenix College has also put a twist on the event with the creation of One Book PC. One Book PC will work in conjunction with One Book AZ. Several book discussion groups have been scheduled at Phoenix College including the authors' visits on April 5th and April 8th to discuss the books.

On April 5, the One Book Arizona event will include authors Lisa Michaels and Brad Dimock. They will discuss their work and the event is located in the Dome Room, Osborn Campus from 6 p.m.- 8 p.m.

On April 8, "No Bigger than a Licorice Whip: The Thin Line between History and Fiction in American Literature" will include Dr. Lisa Miller discussing the various blending of and distinctions between history and fiction. This event will also include presentations from the authors Dimock and Michaels and Dr. Pete Dimas. The presentation will be held in the Green Room of the John Paul Theatre at 11:30 a.m.
