by: Christy Skeen

The Phoenix College Creative Writing Program is proud to present the nationally award-winning poet and novelist, Virginia Sutton on Friday, April 4. To celebrate the publication of her first novel, Embellishments, Sutton will read from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Willo Room on the Osborn Campus at Phoenix College.

Sutton’s poems have appeared in a number of literary publications, including Ploughshares, Antioch Review, The Paris Review, Boulevard, Witness, Quarterly West, Western Humanities Review, and many others.

In addition to her published work, Sutton has also been a recipient of many awards. Some include the Paumanock Poetry Award poetry competition, the National Poet Hunt Contest and most recently; she won the Alan Ginzberg Poetry Award first prize.

Her first novel, "Embellishments takes as its subject a family in flux and examines the mystery of how we learn to love, even when love is not evenly returned," writes poet Mark Wunderlich. "This is a moving, honest, restless book that shows us how to survive in a world simultaneously raved and beautiful."

The reading is free and open to the public. For more information, please call (602) 285-7345.
