Phoenix
College Community To Read and Discuss Plainsong by Kent Haruf
By: Christy Skeen
What if everyone in Arizona
read the same book at the same time? What if that same book had a whole
community talking?
Well, beginning in April,
the Phoenix College community will be reading and discussing Plainsong
by Kent Haruf. In Plainsong, Mr. Haruf writes of the fictitious
town of Holt, Colorado and the people that are integral to that towns
character.
This statewide event, OneBookAZ
Book Discussions will allow Phoenix College students, faculty and staff,
as well as the community an opportunity to get involved in weekly discussions
about the book. Free copies of Plainsong will be distributed to students
at the first meeting while supplies last. Also, copies are available at
the Phoenix College Library and other area libraries for check out. In
addition, Barnes & Noble bookstores are offering discounts.
"These book discussions
will enrich the experience of reading and will help build a stronger sense
of community," said Phoenix College Library Director, Ann Roselle.
