College Athlectics Director Receives National Award

(PHOENIX, Ariz., June. 28, 2005) - The National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics recently announced the 25 winners of the GeneralSports TURF Systems AD of the Year Award, and Phoenix College Athletics Director, Scott Geddis was among the 25 recipients.

Geddis has served as a faculty member in the Department of Health Education at Phoenix College since 1976 and was named director of athletics in 1994. Currently NATYCAA's 2nd vice president, Geddis is also president of the Phoenix College faculty and has served as past president of the Arizona Community College Athletics Association and the Arizona Emergency Paramedic Association. He has implemented numerous programs for academic success including an academic tracking program. He also provided leadership when Phoenix College hosted the NJCAA Division II national golf and softball tournaments.

According to NACDA executive director Mike Cleary, this award "is essential because it highlights the efforts of athletics directors at all levels for their commitment and positive contributions to campuses and their surrounding communities.

All NACDA-member directors of athletics in the United States, Canada and Mexico who met the criteria were eligible for the award. Among the criteria were service as an AD for a minimum of five academic years; demonstration of commitment to higher education and student-athletes; continuous teamwork, loyalty and excellence; and the ability to inspire individuals or groups to high levels of accomplishments. Additionally, each AD's institutional must have passed a compliance check through its appropriate governing body, in which the institution could not have been on probation or cited for a lack of instructional control within the last five years during the tenure of the current athletics director.

Nominators were NACDA-member directors of athletics, institutional presidents and conference commissioners.

Geddis holds an associate's degree from Phoenix College and is working towards a bachelor's degree from Arizona State University.
