From Comic Book Writing to Science Fiction - Phoenix College Creative Writing Program Offers an Array of Courses this Fall
Approximately 10-years-old,
the Phoenix College Creative Writing Program is one of only eight community
colleges in the nation, and the only one in Arizona to offer a certificate
in creative writing. This course will be an introduction to elements and techniques of comic book writing in its specific form and students will learn the terminology and concepts needed for the successful participation in writing workshops. Introduction to Comic Book Writing will focus on proposal outline, planning, structure, character study and evaluation. The course will offer individual suggestions in the students development in this genre.
Writing the Science Fiction Story will introduce the student to the elements and techniques of writing the science fiction story. The course will reinforce terminology and concepts for successful participation in writing workshops and it will facilitate writing practice, evaluation and revision in the writing of the science fiction story. The class will offer individual guidance on the students development as a writer. Additionally, James Sallis, an experienced novelist with an extensive collection of writing, will teach the course. He has published more than two-dozen books as well as hundreds of stories, poems, essays, reviews and translations. His latest novel, Cypress Grove was released last Spring.
Poetic Forms is a studio course that will focus on writing in forms, prewriting, analysis scansion, evaluation, research and revision of poetry in a variety of forms. Register today and release
