Women’s Leadership Group Reps Selected for 2003-2004

The Maricopa Community Colleges Women’s Leadership Group (WLG) recently selected its representatives for 2003-2004.

Among those selected, Cheryl Axtell, Director of Assessment, Advisement and Enrollment Management, will serve as the 2003-2004 Phoenix College campus representative and Connie Nunn Miller, Coordinator of Foundation/Development Operations and Scholarships, and Tresa Miller, Academic Advisor, will serve as the campus alternates.

These women have been extremely active in leadership roles throughout their career.

Axtell, who has been a member of the Phoenix College family for almost 20 years, currently serves on the District Advisement Council, PC Developmental Education Committee, College Implementation Team (co-manager for Peoplesoft), MCCD Student Success Conference Planning Committee, PC Teacher Education Council, PC Strategic Planning Facilitator, PC Catalog Improvement Committee, PC Admissions and Standards Committee, Title V Student Services Committee, Title V Math/Science Committee and is a MCCD Course Applicability System Representative.

Like Axtell, both Connie and Tresa have been committed to the Phoenix College community.

Connie has been an active member of the Phoenix College community as both a student and employee since 1996. She’s been involved in organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa, Model UN, the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence Legal Advocacy Program, and the National Institute for Leadership Development. She received her certification in Nonprofit Management from ASU and is currently the Arizona contact for Randolph- Macon Woman’s College Alumni Association.

Tresa has been an employee at Phoenix College since 1986, serving in various capacities. She has been an active member of the Professional Staff Association (PSA) since her hire and served as president for one year. She currently serves as a campus representative for the organization. She also recently obtained her Masters in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix.

WLG representatives will hold the following responsibilities:

--Participate as an active member on the WLG Council – attend monthly meetings, provide input, volunteer for sub-committees;
--Host or assist with implementation of district-wide WLG events;
--Market WLG events to the campus and encourage participation;
--Organize a college WLG group (optional);
--Organize college specific events (optional);
--Provide feedback/input from the college level to the district group; and
--Provide communication to the college and administration of WLG issues and activities.

WLG provides for the continuous development of a strong and supportive work environment for the diverse women of the Maricopa Community Colleges and was originally launched in February 1991. Since then, the organization has been providing support to women and building the community; providing mentoring opportunities; increasing networking; meeting the professional growth needs of Maricopa women; increasing awareness of women’s issues through workshops, seminars and special events; and support and affect organizational and individual development.

Membership in WLG is open to all employees from all employee groups within the District and membership dues are $5 per year. Dues support the activities and programs sponsored by WLG, although membership is not required to attend most WLG events.
