Phoenix College Hires Coordinator for HSIAC Grant
Grant Received is one of 25 in the nation

 

(PHOENIX, Ariz., July 28, 2003) - Phoenix College recently hired Karen Clark as the new coordinator for the Hispanic Serving Institutions Assisting Communities Grant (HSIAC). Clark, whom is dedicated to the educational arena, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with her to the college.

Most recently, she served as a curriculum and assessment writer and as an educational consultant/company trainer for Evans Newton Incorporated in Scottsdale. In the past she has served in various educational capacities including manager of professional development and implementation for Evans Newton Inc., foundation specialist for the Fort Worth Independent School District and a school-to-work specialist – to name a few.

The grant was awarded to the college in 2002 and Clark will be responsible for creating a Career Training and Employment Program (CTEP). The program’s activities will target public housing tenants and will include occupational training sessions, leadership academies and the opening of computer lab internships. Additional services will focus on job readiness workshops, English-as-a-Second-Language programs and service learning opportunities.

Already, Clark has been working with the City of Chandler Public Housing, City of Phoenix Public Housing, Chicanos Por La Causa and Women and Youth for Self-Reliance (WYSR).
