Husband and Wife Duo Receive U.S. Citizenship
Students Attribute success to Phoenix College

(PHOENIX, Ariz., July 29, 2003) – Saban and Senada Abazi studied for more than a month in an effort to answer 100 of the toughest questions pertaining to the United States history and government. They mastered the English language, which helped them fully comprehend the subject matter presented to them on the test; however, they believe that the secret to their success was due to the assistance they received from Phoenix College.

That’s right! Although their story may sound familiar to many immigrants, these two newly recognized citizens from Bosnia enrolled in ESL classes, took advantage of tutoring services and utilized the Fannin Library at Phoenix College to prepare for one of the most difficult exams given in the U.S.

"We could not have done this without the help from instructors and staff at PC," said Saban. "I really just want to thank the school because when I first came here, I did not understand anything. I am very proud to be here and be an American."

Saban and his wife Senada arrived in Phoenix in 1998. Although most of their family currently lives in either Bosnia or Germany, they are blessed to have their two daughters, Rabija and Asija here with them as well.

Becoming citizens was the first step for the Abazis. They are now working toward finishing their studies so that they can explore a number of career opportunities available in social work and daycare.

"It is important for me to thank Aida Music for her support and Sigrid Nord-Champie for all of her help tutoring me."

Saban and Senada became U.S. citizens on Friday, June 30, 2003.
