Former NFL Athlete Accepts Head Coaching Position at Phoenix College

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Jan. 5, 2004) – Former NFL athlete and current ESPN Radio 860 talk show host, Ron Wolfley, will coach the Phoenix College Bears beginning January 2004. As head football coach, he will also begin recruiting for the next season.

Wolfley, who played for a number of NFL teams including the Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns and St. Louis Rams, will bring a unique perspective to the team. His leadership and professional skills are the tools necessary to build a top quality football program for many years to come.

"We believe we have found in Coach Wolfley someone who reflects the student first philosophy of our institution," said Phoenix College Athletic Director, Scott Geddis. "He is a proven leader and will set the disciplined tone necessary to rebuild the football traditions at Phoenix College."

Some professional highlights include:
--Pro Bowl selection 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989;
--NFL Alumni Player of the Year (Special Teams) 1987;
--Member of the All-Madden Team 1989;
--Winner of the Ed Block Courage Award (St. Louis Rams) in 1995; and
--Team captain for eight of the ten years while in the NFL.

Although coaching football was not even a real consideration for Wolfley a year ago, he is eager and excited to take on this new adventure in January.

"I am wildly excited to take over the program and implement my own philosophy on how football is played," he said. "Football is in my blood and I have the most respect and love for the game and the players that play it."
