(PHOENIX, Ariz., Jan. 13, 2004) – From the famous words of Shakespeare to the ever-so-powerful lyrics of Tupac Shakur, Phoenix College is drumming up an array of interest with its unique offering of literature classes for Spring semester.

Additionally, the English Department has kicked off the semester with two new courses, adding to the already eclectic mix of courses available. New classes include Literature of Science Fiction and Literature for Adolescents.

Literature of Science Fiction allows students to survey science fiction literature by history and theme. The class investigates the origins and definitions of the genre as well as the similarities and differences between it and other imaginative literatures. The course also examines various contemporary social, psychological and technological issues such as gender and ethnicity, roles of technology, cyberconsciousness, loss of identity and the nature of existence and sentience.

Literature for Adolescents reviews literature selected for adolescents. The course also helps students develop and apply literary criteria when evaluating this genre.

Whether a literature guru or an occasional dabbler, this semester’s selection has a little something to meet virtually everyone’s taste. Other Spring 2004 Literature classes include:
