Spring Semester Students Encouraged to Audition for Competitive Music Scholarship - Auditions Slated for March 24
Students who wish to audition as performers should plan to submit a repertoire list of four titles, which may be movements of the same work, different pieces or a combination of both. Those who wish to submit a composition for consideration should submit a recording of the work along with a score for the composition. It should not exceed 15 minutes in duration and the recording may be either live or computer generated CD or cassette tape. All applicants must submit: --A self-written letter of
application stating that persons desire to be considered, All auditions will be held in the Janet Sessions Theatre beginning at 6 p.m. Some audience members may be present (families and friends are welcome) and performers should anticipate a recital atmosphere. Composers should be present and be prepared to discuss their work with the adjudicators and audience. Additionally, it is important to note that all audition times will be limited to 20 minutes. Live performances will be judged on performance quality and effect only. The judges will be from the Phoenix musical community, they will not be members of the Phoenix College faculty. All recorded compositions will be judged for integrity of effort and performance effect. The decision of the judges will be final. At last, the recipient of the scholarship must agree to be present for the McConnell Singers Spring Follies Concert on Sunday, May 2 at 3 p.m. to receive the award and to perform a portion of the audition repertoire or participate in the presentation of the winning composition.
