President
Encourages Faculty to Nominate Students for the 2003 Terry O'Banion Student
Technology Award
Phoenix College President,
Dr. Corina Gardea is encouraging faculty to nominate outstanding students
for the 2003 Terry O'Banion Student Technology Award. The Alumni Relations
and Development Office must receive all nomination materials no later
than Feb. 10, 2003.
Sponsored by the Microsoft
Corporation, the 2003 Terry O'Banion Student Technology Award will recognize
two students from a League for Innovation Member Institution. These students
will exemplify special talent and an interest in a career in technology.
They will also demonstrate a need for financial assistance in meeting
their career goals.
Award winners will be designated
as a Microsoft Student Technology Champion or a Student Developer Champion.
The Student Developer Champion award will be given to a student with a
career focus in software development.
The Maricopa Community Colleges
are members of the League for Innovation and President Gardea encourages
Phoenix College faculty or staff members to nominate student candidates.
"Oftentimes, students
may not be aware of newly created scholarships," said President Gardea.
"This makes it more critical for faculty and staff to identify strong
candidates and introduce them to these new financial possibilities."
In addition to the nomination
form, nominators must submit a 500-word letter of recommendation.
Eligible student nominees
must be:
--Currently enrolled in a
League for Innovation Member Institution;
--Pursuing a career in technology; and
--In need of financial assistance to further his or her education.
Awards winners will be announced
at the League's Innovations 2003 conference, March 16-19, in Phoenix.
