Workshops
Offered to Strengthen Research Skills
by: Christy Skeen
Have
you been assigned to write a research paper or speech? Are you a little
confused as to where to start? If so, Phoenix College will offer five
workshops specifically geared to strengthening your research skills.
Beginning Wednesday, Jan.
29 at 6 p.m. Phoenix College reference librarians will offer these hands-on
workshops.
Participants will have the
opportunity to explore the various types of electronic databases available
and will also learn how to determine what databases are available for
a specific discipline or assignment. They will locate books, articles
and journals by using subject, keyword and Boolean searches online as
well.
Some examples of questions
that will be posed during the workshops include:
--What are two essential access
and location skills students must possess to adequately find information?
--What are the purposes of
electronic databases? What types of material do they cover? Who produces
them?
--How does the Phoenix College
Library cooperate with other libraries and various organizations to help
students get the resources they need?
Dont miss your opportunity!
