Phoenix College Lifelong Learning Program Offers Noncredit Courses for Spring Semester
Topics from March to May

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Feb. 17, 2005) - From financial planning to basic computer classes, the Lifelong Learning Program at Phoenix College offers programs and services of particular interest or that benefit the mature adult. The noncredit courses, although geared to the mature adult, are open to individuals of all ages.

A variety of educational experiences are offered including courses, workshops, lectures and special events.

Upcoming classes, workshops, and sessions include:

Art: You Too Can Draw Flies - $5
Learn to make sketches from plants.

Current Events Discussion - $5
Free flowing discussion with topics selected by the class. Discussion usually focuses on newsworthy events.

News and Money - FREE
This course will include an in-depth look at current events and how they affect money and investments. News and Money will focus on a broad historical perspective of the economy and the stock market.

Container Gardening - $20
Learn the basics of container gardening. This course will be a hands-on learning experience.

Grow Your Salsa Garden - $10
This course will focus on everything you need to know to grow your own salsa including soil preparation, plant selection, calendars, water, light requirements, pest management and recipes.

Mental Illness: Its Place in the Senior Population - $10
This course covers a breadth of mental health issues associated with aging including depression, differences between mental illness and dementia, suicide, disasters and isolation. The class will also focus on the impact of physical health on mental illness and living arrangements.

Home Design for Aging in Place - $5
Learn the techniques on making your home more age friendly.

Arizona History - $20
Arizona historian, Michael Steinberg will explore the history of Arizona. He will discuss the founding of Phoenix, why it took 49 year for the Arizona Territory to become a state, the story of the Arizona Canal Company and the founding of Glendale, Peoria, and Scottsdale.

Creating Harmony with Color - $10
Learn new color schemes to create harmony in the home.

Conquering Kitchen Chaos - $10
The kitchen is the center of most homes. This class will help you conquer kitchen clutter. Learn the true meaning of chaos.

Writers Forum - $35
If you have always wanted to write or have a story to tell, this class if for you. Whether it is your life history, essays lyrical poetry, short stories or a novel-enjoy the camaraderie and support of others.
