A Multilingual Celebration of Dr. Seuss

(PHOENIX, AZ, Feb. 14, 2005) --- Echoes of Green Eggs and Ham will filter from the Phoenix College campus on Wednesday, March 2 during the 101st birthday celebration of the famous children's author, Dr. Seuss. In honor of the author's achievements and significance, Phoenix College students, faculty and staff will gather on this special day from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the Bulpitt Auditorium steps to recite multilingual readings from various Dr. Seuss books.

For more than five years, Phoenix College students from over five different countries have recited Dr. Seuss's works in languages spanning from Somali to Spanish. His books continue to promote child literacy and education, making Dr. Seuss the only children's author whose birthday is nationally celebrated, with growing popularity each year.

"It is surprising to me that students from around the world have heard of Dr. Seuss," said Laura Galloway, Communication instructor at Phoenix College. "By performing readings in many different languages, the outreach and impact of Dr. Seuss's work is expressed."

Throughout his lifetime, Theodor Seuss Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, published 48 books. Many of his popular works have been translated into as many as 20 different languages, which is more than any other children's author in the world.

For nearly 60 years, Dr. Seuss has delighted millions worldwide with his fanciful, most often surreal worlds, and has touched the hearts of children, parents, and grandparents alike.

Parents are particularly encouraged to bring their children to this outdoor celebration.

The event is sponsored by the Phoenix College Communication Department and the Phoenix College Student Life and Leadership Office.

This event is free and open to the public. For further information, please call
