All-Arizona Academic Team Recognition Ceremony Salutes Two PC Students (PHOENIX, Ariz., Feb. 14, 2005) - Phoenix College students Reed Mettler and Sat Nam Kaur Khalsa recently joined college presidents, legislators and other dignitaries at a luncheon at Mesa Community College this past Thursday, as they were recognized as 2nd Team recipients for the 2005 All-Arizona Academic Team. Phoenix College Acting President, Dr. Anna Solley presented both students with a scholarship award and an All-Arizona Academic medal for their success. This academic competition was sponsored by Arizona Phi Theta Kappa and recognized outstanding community college students from across the state for their commitment to education and community service. Both Mettler and Khalsa were among an elite group of 68 students from community colleges throughout Arizona that received this honor. Mettler has certainly made a name for himself at Phoenix College and described his experience at the college as nothing less than amazing. As a Phoenix College ambassador, he shares his excitement with prospective students. Additionally, as a Classical Studies and Honor student, his rather rigorous academic schedule has prepared him for such honors and awards like the Model United Nations Best Delegate Award and President's Scholarship. With his demanding academic schedule, Mettler still manages to find time for social engagement. He is the internal affairs officer for Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership (SAIL), the poetry content coordinator for Meriadoc Society, vice president of leadership for Phi Theta Kappa - Rho Pi Chapter, Young Democrats member and New Voters Project volunteer. Like Metter, Khalsa is also
extremely active at Phoenix College. In her second year, she is president
of Phoenix College Amnesty International, coordinator for Phoenix College
Young Democrats, member of Phi Theta Kappa, volunteer for New Voters Project
and a yoga instructor. Khalsa also worked as an intern for the Kerry/Edwards
campaign. Both recipients are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) at Phoenix College, a national scholastic honorary society for students attending two-year community colleges. Selection was based on academic achievement, leadership accomplishments and service to the community. ### |
