Celebrating a Century of Dr. Seuss
For more than four years, Phoenix College students from over five different countries have recited Dr. Seusss works in languages spanning from Somali to Spanish. His books continue to promote child literacy and education, making Dr. Seuss the only childrens author whose birthday is nationally celebrated, with growing popularity every year. "It is suprising to me that students from all corners of the world have heard of Dr. Seuss," said Laura Galloway, Communications instructor at Phoenix College. "By performing readings in many different languages, the outreach and impact of Dr. Seusss work is expressed." Throughout his lifetime, Theodor Seuss Geisel, more commonly known as Dr. Seuss, wrote 48 books. Many of his popular works have been translated into 20 different languagesmore translations than any other childrens author in the world. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to this outdoor celebration. The event is sponsored by the Phoenix College Communication Department and the Phoenix College Student Life and Leadership Office. This event is free and open to the public.
