PSA Celebrated Holiday Season at PC

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Jan. 3, 2004) - It was a true winter fiesta at Phoenix College as members of the Professional Staff Association (PSA) from across the District gathered at Phoenix College to celebrate the holiday season with its annual luncheon. As the sounds of festive mariachi music filtered through the North Gym, PSA employees were able to reacquaint themselves with fellow friends.

The annual event, which had occasionally taken place at a local restaurant or resort in the past, was hosted strictly by the college this year. Not only did Phoenix College house the event, but members of the planning committee utilized college resources for food and entertainment. The Mexican cuisine was provided by Aramark and the entertainment consisted of the Phoenix College Latin Dance Club (with an unforgettable Bumstead appearance) and the Mariachi group, Nuevo Trio del Sol. It is important to note that Phoenix College employee, Victor Leyva is a member of the Mariachi group.

"The Committee felt it was important to showcase as many PC resources as possible," said Phoenix College PSA president, Priscilla Gonzales. "Diana Martinez led the committee members and volunteers in making all of the favors, flowers and center pieces used for the event. Everyone showed up early to create the festive atmosphere and pitched in where ever they were needed. I am very proud of the results and grateful to all the PC folks who helped pull this event together."

During the event, the group held two very special presentations. The employee group recognized MCCCD Governing Board member, Nancy Stein, for her continued commitment to PSA and a $1,000 donation was given to Karen Conway for Diamondbacks Charities. The $1,000 donation was raised entirely by selling door prize tickets at the luncheon.

By recognizing special people and donating to an important cause, PSA certainly embraced the true meaning of the holiday season.

A special thank you to door prize donors, which included: Bishop's Family Dining, Cathy Taylor, Diamondbacks Charities, Diane Blum, Fiddlesticks Family Fun Park, PC Theatre Department (Gerry Burgess), Indulgence Hair & Nail Studio, Jacque Cline, Joy Fitzpatrick, Julianne Roybal, Lynn Mary, MCCCD Marketing (Rick DeGraw), Mi Patio Mexican Food Restaurant, Office Depot (Chardean Gillespie), PC Institutional Advancement (Mike Murphy), Renee Perry, Richard Saling, The Original Hamburger Works and Travel by Max.
