Congressman Ed Pastor visits Phoenix College World Politics Class

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Dec. 16, 2003) – United States Congressman, Ed Pastor recently visited Phoenix College speaking informally about politics and foreign affairs to Dr. Albert Celoza’s world politics class.

Congressman Pastor addressed recent hot political topics including the new prescription drug plan, the war in Iraq and illegal immigrant policy, as well as more theoretical political concerns, such as the structure of the United States military and the value of the bicameral legislative system. He also discussed his own history, telling of his early involvement in politics and emphasizing the importance of support from his family and community.

"I think that it is very important that some of in public office spend time in the classroom," said Congressman Pastor.

Many students were appreciative of his sentiment.

"I was impressed by the fact that he was actually honest," said student, Tony Pineda. "This is really something for a politician in today’s political climate."

According to Dr. Celoza, the Congressman’s straightforward and candid style impressed other students as many remained after the close of the class to ask questions and pose for pictures.
