The Phoenix Historic Preservation Commission has initiated the process
to establish Historic Preservation zoning for the Phoenix College/Campus
Vista Historic District. The area under consideration is bounded by Thomas
Road, Osborn Road, 7th Avenue and 15th Avenue.
A public hearing to review the case before the Phoenix Historic Preservation
Commission is scheduled for December 9. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. in
the City Council Chambers, located at 200 West Jefferson Street.
Zoning designation is designed to recognize that a property or area is
historically, culturally or architecturally significant and worthy of
preservation. The designation does not change uses permitted by existing
zoning but is intended to ensure that buildings in these districts historical
integrity.
"Phoenix College is proud of our 82-year history," states President
Dr. Corina Gardea. "We want to preserve its heritage and unique relationship
with our neighboring community for a very long time."
