in the 21st Century" - Presented by Kevin Gover The direction of Federal Indian

Transforming Oral History
into the Written Word - Creative Writing Workshop with Juli
Henshaw Personal histories have been
preserved through time, through photos and in the oral tradition of storytelling.
Think of your family or a long-term friendship. Each has at least one
orator (often more) and one keeper of this shared history. It is this
orator that recounts the same event(s) at each new meeting or gathering,
always bringing us to laughter or tears. This workshop will attempt to
define the oral tradition of storytelling and contrast it to the written.
Participants will briefly examine the similarities and differences of
each. Come Juli Henshaw, a fiction writer, received her MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. She has given previous workshops for the Phoenix College Creative Writing Program as well as writing workshops at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe. Her most recent publication is forthcoming in The Hawaii Review. She is currently at work on a novel.
Valerie's artistic viewpoint shows her experience in composition and design, which she brings from technical fields where she created and printed circuit board artwork and architectural drafting. She has left the world of technology and has now edged her way into the fine art of watercolor by creating vivid paintings of flowers and illusions of fantasy. Valerie's distinct and expressive style is easily recognizable - her soul-stirring watercolor paintings bring her love of nature to life. She achieves a wonderful range of deep and masterful hues through her extraordinary sense and use of color. Each unique painting transcends imagination and is in itself a piece of paradise on earth.
