Recent PC Graduate Encourages New Students to Get Organized Early

(PHOENIX, Ariz., August 23, 2004) – She was an absolute standout at Phoenix College and a recognized role model among her peers. Through soccer, volleyball, baton twirling and academics Kim (Eastin) Weeks knew how to juggle her schedule to stay on top of her game. As she embarks on a new journey as an ASU student, she remembers when she first arrived at Phoenix College. Today, she shares her advice with PC students and encourages them to get organized early in the semester.

Weeks began her studies at Phoenix College on a presidential and soccer scholarship in Fall 2001. As a dedicated student and astounding athlete, she graduated with an AA in General Studies in May 2003. However, she did not stop after this achievement. She recently received a certificate in Paralegal Studies from Phoenix College. This Fall, she begins work toward a B.A. in Criminal Justice at ASU.

With a positive attitude and optimistic outlook on life, Weeks owes her success to her parents. From awards ranging from 2002 Academic Team-of-the-Year for Soccer and 2003 Academic Team-of-the-Year for Volleyball to 2003 Academic All-American and 2nd Team All Region for Soccer, Weeks believes that her parents were instrumental in providing the values and beliefs needed to be successful. In addition to her influential parents, she also believes that her organizational skills contributed to a successful academic year.

“My advice to incoming Phoenix College students is to buy a school calendar and get organized with all their classes,” she said. “It is much easier to get organized in the beginning of the semester rather than try and catch up in the middle or even at the end.”

In addition to perfecting organizational skills, Weeks also encourages students to ask questions.

“If students have questions in class or on campus, I highly encourage them to stop and ask someone,” she added. “The faculty at PC are really helpful and enjoy assisting students.”

Weeks has benefited greatly because of her organizational skills. In addition to a successful past in academics and athletics, Weeks also participated in the 2002 Miss Arizona pageant as Miss Twirling Athlete, where her platform focused on “Personal Growth Through Athletics.”

Weeks’ gift for effective organization has allowed other gifts to transpire, including scholarships and awards. She encourages other students to follow in her footsteps.
