Golf Fundraiser to Support PC ACE 2004 High School Graduates

(PHOENIX, Ariz., April 1, 2004) – On Saturday, May 15 the Phoenix College Alumni Association will host Shooting for ACE: Golf Tournament Fundraiser at the Villa de Paz Golf Course near 103rd Ave. and Indian School. The tournament is open to all interested participants and all proceeds from the event will support scholarships for ACE alumni to attend Phoenix College.

ACE is a pipeline program that was incubated at PC’s sister college, South Mountain Community College (SMCC), more than 15 years ago. ACE targets at-risk high school students from low income inner-city communities in Phoenix who traditionally would not consider going to college and attaining a baccalaureate degree an achievable goal. Students are invited to apply for admission into the program during their sophomore year.

Once enrolled, they attend classes at PC every Saturday during the regular academic year and throughout the summer, in addition to their normal high school classes. Students continue this schedule throughout their junior and senior years. At the end of their senior year, ACE participants reach some important milestones:

--They graduate high school;
--They have accumulated between 18 and 24 college credit hours at PC; and,
--Since they have a head start on college, they are prepared to handle the transition to PC as full time students.

The tournament format will be a four-person scramble. Participants can enter as an individual player or as a team (individual players will be matched with a team). Registration gets underway at 6:45 a.m. and the shotgun start kicks off at 7:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.

For more information or to register, please call (602) 285-7667.
