(PHOENIX, Ariz., May 4, 2004) – Phoenix College will host the 18th Annual Hispanic Convocation this Friday, May 7 in the Bulpitt Auditorium. This annual event, sponsored by the Arizona Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (AACHE) – Maricopa Chapter, will honor the achievement of Hispanic graduates and certificate recipients from the 10 Maricopa Community Colleges and Skill Centers.

The event will begin with food and entertainment at 5 p.m. and the recognition ceremony will get underway at 7 p.m.

The goal of the Maricopa Chapter of AACHE is to serve as a vehicle in the development and advancement of Chicanos, Hispanos and Latinos by:

• Providing a comprehensive academic and student support system to ensure equal opportunity for Chicano, Hispano and Latino students.
• Promoting the employment, development and advancement of Chicano Hispano and Latino faculty and staff within the Maricopa community.
• Promoting the accomplishments that Chicano, Hispano and Latino members of the Maricopa community have contributed.
  
• Providing recommendations to pending policies, procedures and activities that affect Chicanos, Hispanos and Latinos.
