Phoenix College Student Composers to Present Musical Compositions April 30

by: Christy Skeen

The Phoenix Composers Alliance will present Strings-n-Things, a new music concert series with all works composed and presented by Phoenix College students, on Wednesday, April 30. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Sessions Theatre, located in the Music Building on the Phoenix College campus.

The concert will feature original student compositions, which focus on formal structures in music. Strings-n-Things will be an educational concert, complete with a brief discussion and visual presentation of each of the forms used in the concert.

Musical presentations will range from a woodwind quintet to an accordion, violin and African drum combo. The series will literally showcase all music types and preferences.

In addition to the student presentations, the Apperson String Quartet will perform "Starlore." This quartet features local musician and Phoenix College String faculty member, Jim Apperson.
For more information regarding the concert, please call (602) 285-7273.

The Phoenix Composers Alliance strives to promote the awareness and understanding of contemporary music on the Phoenix College campus. It organizes frequent lectures, and guest appearances in addition to sponsoring annual new music concerts presenting both student and faculty works. The Phoenix Composers Alliance is under the direction of Dr. Stephen Grieco, and is funded by Phoenix College Student Life and Leadership and the Department of Music.
