Phoenix College is enlisting key Phoenix leaders to help it strengthen ties to central city business and community partners. College leaders met Monday with counterparts from the business, education, ethnic, cultural and non-profit sectors to form an advisory council and discuss strategic alliances with the college.

The assembled civic leaders agreed to work with Phoenix College to implement the institution's new strategic plan, one inititiative of which calls for strengthening business and community partnerships. Participants recognized the college's importance as the largest higher education and workforce training provider in the central city. And all expressed the need to maintain the college's programs and services in tough economic times, since this is exactly when many citizens need additional training and education the most.

"I am very gratified by the support and civic responsibility shown by these outstanding community leaders," siad Phoenix College President Dr. Corina Gardea. "I look forward to benefiting from their collected wisdom, experience and perspective as we seek ways to better serve our changing community."
