Phoenix College Creative Writing Program Offers 2-day Workshop Entitled Getting Published In The Real World

by: Christy Skeen

Calling all aspiring authors. The Phoenix College Creative Writing Program will hold a free two-day workshop/seminar entitled Getting Published In The Real World on Friday, May 2 and Saturday May 3. Both sessions are scheduled in C102 on the Phoenix College Campus.

The seminar is designed to give aspiring authors the "real world" knowledge and tools to achieve their writing goals and will feature author of The Girls’ Guide to Elvis, Kim Adelman and writing consultant and owner of The Insider’s System For Writers, Natalie Rothenberg.

The event will kick-off Friday evening with a reading and Q&A session with Adelman beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday’s session, which gets underway at 10 a.m., will be broken into morning and afternoon presentations with Adelman and Rothenberg. Both will focus on the "real world" things that a writer needs to do to go from writing for his or herself to becoming published.

Both workshop presenters have a wide array of publishing knowledge.

Kim Adelman’s first book, The Girls’ Guide to Elvis was published by Broadway Books/Random House and was featured in Time Magazine. Her second book, The Girls Guide to Country, will be published later this year and she just finished her third book, Making and Marketing the Short Film, which will be published in 2004.

Natalie Rothenberg owns and operates The Insider’s System For Writers – the doorway between the undiscovered writers and top industry decision makers. She is a story analysis professional who has worked in person management, feature developing and production. She has experience in writing, evaluating, buying, selling and editing for film, television, publishing and theatre.

The seminar is free and open to the public; however, participants must call to reserve a space at (602) 285-7345.
