Phoenix College Emergency Communications
At Phoenix College, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff is of primary importance. It is our hope that you will familiarize yourself with the emergency notification systems. In the event of an emergency, PC will use these systems to communicate instructions and other vital information during a crisis situation.

Phoenix College has created a multi-modal crisis communications plan in an effort to maximize communication efforts during an emergency. In addition to the systems listed below (Emergency Alerts), PC may also message through the web page, text alerts, and e-mails to communicate with students and their families, as well as faculty and staff, in the event of an emergency.


Weather Alert — January 21, 2010

Use caution today in anticipation of severe rain and wind. Phoenix College classes are not affected at this time. In the event of an emergency the most up to date information will be found at www.maricopa.edu/mems.

ALERT: National Weather Service Alert Issued 1.21.10 HIGH WIND WARNING Effective 9:33am - remains in effect until midnight

Strong winds are beginning to develop south of the Greater Phoenix Area...Specifically near Gila Bend. Observed winds in excess of 45 MPH have already been reported at Gila Bend and are spreading Northward toward the Greater Phoenix Area and the rest of South Central Arizona. The strongest winds will likely occur across the warned area between noon and midnight.

Travel will be difficult...especially for high profile vehicles on west-east roadways...including Interstates 10 and 8. Tree limbs and loose branches may break given these strong winds. Outdoor furniture and other unsecured light items could become airborne.

Note: A high wind warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected. sustained wind speeds of at least 40 MPH or gusts of 58 MPH or more can lead to property damage. In addition...strong winds over desert areas could result in briefly lowered visibilities to well under a mile at times in blowing dust or blowing sand. Use Extra Caution.

ALERT: National Weather Service Alert Issued 1.21.10 FLASH FLOOD WARNING

Flash flood warning Northern Maricopa County in South Central Arizona includes the cities of Wittmann, Wickenburg, Scottsdale, New River, Fountain Hills, and Circle City. Widespread heavy rains have produced flash flooding over Cave Creek Wash, New River Wash near I-17, Skunk Creek, Centennial Wash, and the Agua Fria Wash.

Additional rainfall amounts of two to four inches are possible in the warned area. Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
