LEARNING CENTER SERVICES
The Learning Center is an institutional support system designed for all Phoenix College students to help improve their learning skills. Our goals are to help students improve their study habits and assist them in their classes by providing tutoring, study skills development, multi-media materials and student special services. We attempt to provide these services in a friendly environment and with qualified assistance.

TUTORING

  • Drop-In Tutoring

    • Drop-In Tutoring is available for the most requested fields of study: English, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Accounting and a few others

    • The days and times for Drop-In vary from semester to semester, but we try to set up schedules to serve as many students as possible. The schedule is posted in the Learning Center.

  • Group Tutoring

    • The Learning Center strongly encourages group tutoring. If several students in the same subject or class come to us needing assistance we will try to provide a tutor.

  • One-on-One Tutoring

    • One-on-One Tutoring is available for most subjects. It is required that a student be enrolled in the class at Phoenix College for which he/she is requesting tutoring. Many students request this individualized tutoring, and we are happy to provide it according to availability. Space, however, is limited, so students are advised to sign-up early.

  • On-Line Writing Lab (OWL)

  • Tutors

    • The tutors in the Learning Center have different educational backgrounds. Many of our Drop-In tutors are Phoenix College faculty members who volunteer their time to assist students in our center. Other tutors are former instructors, degreed individuals, and students. Students wishing to become a tutor need to have earned an "A" in the subjects desired to tutor. For some subjects, we require faculty or departmental confirmation that a student is qualified to tutor.

Applications are available at the front desk.

    STUDY SKILLS RESOURCES
The Learning Center provides tipsheets dealing with study skills. Videotapes are also available for viewing at the Learning Center. These tapes include topics such as library skills, time management, exam preparation, and note-taking. Study skills workshops are offered at different times throughout the semester.

MULTI-MEDIA RESOURCES
The Learning Center also offers several types of multi-media assistance. We have English skills labs on computers, ESL audio labs, models and videos for Anatomy & Physiology, videotapes for Math, and more.

SPECIAL STUDENT SERVICES
The offices for Disability Support Services, Success Program, and IVEP Program are also in the Learning Center.
