Eligible Activities
What are eligible activities?
- Eligible activities are travel to classes, conferences, workshops, or professional meetings that will increase knowledge or skills enhancing your role at the college.
- Also included is travel for required and voluntary professional certification courses used for your teaching area that are not required to correct certification deficiencies for teaching.
- Travel funding can be used for lodging, meals, transportation.
What are ineligible activities?
An ineligible activity is an activity not supported by the Professional Growth Guidelines. Ineligible activities are activities, connected to your teaching obligation or contractual responsibilities. These cannot be considered for travel funding. Such activities include:
- Department meetings
- Articulation meetings
- Discipline instructional councils
- Accreditation work
- Advisement sessions within MCCCD
- Curriculum/materials development
- Community advisory board meetings
- New faculty orientation and other standard responsibilities.
Standard responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Travel for training on the use of the phone system, MEMO, SIS/LCS, CFS, and essential office computer software including the Internet.
What other activities might be deemed ineligible?
Teaching or administrative duties at MCCCD or other educational institutions are not eligible for professional growth.
Travel involving curriculum development and/or materials development will not be considered for advancement. The development of such materials is part of your teaching obligation. Check and see if these activities might be funded via other MCCCD programs.
Travel for some work experiences and/or other professional activities that cannot be used for advancement. The FPG committee relies on your professionalism and honesty in these instances.
Examples:
Work as a self-employed agent, member of a partnership, consultant, etc., or when a conflict of interest might be construed.
Work done for or supervised by relatives, family members, or significant others.
Work undertaken directly to maintain teaching certification in the teaching field.
