This screenwriting-based course explores a range of techniques designed to improve dialogue, including how to create subtext, how to craft dialogue that carries an emotional impact, and how to seamlessly weave in exposition.

Not ready to make such a big commitment to your writing? Or maybe you’ve already started a novel and just need some help finishing it. Then how about getting an overview of the structure of a novel in our special Topics In Writing: Fiction course – Structuring Your Novel
This course will focus on giving your novel an overhaul by learning the basics of 3 act structure, conflict and resolution, and the great expectations of summary and scene. Lectures and workshop submissions will focus on pivotal scenes: beginnings, reversals, and climaxes, as well as overall novel structure. CRW 160 Intro To Poetry

This class will emphasize the musical aspects of poetry, including rap, slam poetry, and song writing.
MW 12-1:15 Hershman
The course will be an introduction to poetry focusing on the basic elements, from understanding image to form. The course is set up as a workshop with the discussion of a wide variety of poems.
CRW 170 Intro To Writing Fiction

This course will focus on introducing the student to fiction through the reading of short stories, the study of writing techniques, in-class writing exercises, and workshops.
CRW 180 Intro To Writing Nonfiction
Hybrid (S) Meyn
