Course Objectives: By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

1.      Demonstrate proper body mechanics and various exercise formats.

2.      Identify the components of fitness and design an effective personal exercise program using exercise basics.

3.      Apply various health and wellness principles to improve personal health status.

Point Descriptions – (must be documented on your PPL Log)

ס   In Class Exercise:  You earn 2 points for every hour of exercise in the Fitness Center AND/OR Aerobics. 

Max of 3 hours per day or 6 points..

All students are required to present their Phoenix College ID card to gain access to the Fitness Center and Aerobic classes.  Additionally, you must sign the pink roster for every aerobic class attended.

ס   Outside Activity:  Earn 2 points per hour for out of class exercise.   See above for max allowed for your

      individual class.  For example: hiking on the weekend, jogging/walking on the track, walking the dog,

      gardening, golf etc, will earn you points towards your grade.  Points cannot be earned while earning a

      grade for another activity class such as Tai Chi, Yoga, Dance, Kickboxing, Golf etc...

ס    Personal Progress Log (PPL):  Five (5) points can be earned if your workouts are documented

      consistently on your PPL.  Log must remain in your classroom file at all times.  Points given at end of class.

ס    Fitness Training Presentations:  These online sessions are designed to get you started on your personal

       exercise program.  Print and turn in completed quiz to instructor in order to earn 4 points per lecture.

ס    Article Review:  Two (2) Points can be obtained by completing article reviews on wellness related topics.

      A list of resources and specific format is available in the Fitness Center.  See an instructor for details.

        Must be typed, double spaced, 2 pages, and attached to a copy of the original article.

Grading Facts

q       The Department will not automatically withdraw a student who is no longer attending.

q       NOIncomplete” grades will be given for these courses – medical issues may be considered.

q       A Medical Release may be required prior to exercise or if your medical condition changes.

q       All graded sections transfer as electives to other Universities.  Please check with the institution that you plan to transfer to regarding policies on Pass/No Credit classes.

q       Students who wish to appeal their grade must follow the Phoenix College Student Grievance – Academic Process (see Student Handbook).
