The Phoenix College Creative Writing Program provides a writing community that inspires and encourages, while allowing individuals to follow their own path in creative work. The program is especially suited to non-traditional students, including adults with established careers in other fields, minority writers, and seniors. Introductory courses in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, writing for children, and screenwriting prepare students for workshops in a variety of topics, such as the novel, the short short story, poetic forms, musical elements of poetry, dialogue, magical realism, dream writing, journaling, memoirs, revision, and publishing. Courses are offered weekdays, evenings, and weekends in 4, 8, 10, 12, and 16 week units. Writing students may also participate in internships with the public schools; local magazines, such as Arizona Highways; the Y.M.C.A., and a film production company. We also set up Special Projects for credit so students may pursue individual interests.
