NOTES:
This final game
ended up being a nailbiter. Again
Phoenix came out swinging to score one run in each the 1st and 2nd
innings. In the 1st Sonia
Medina scored on a single by Diana Mendez.
The second run was scored by Corrie Long on a double by Delane
Oscarson. This was to be the only
scoring by Phoenix as they left 9 runner on base. Mesa scored their only run on a homer by Ashly Wisecarver. In the top of the 6th Mesa’s
Heather Dukes got on base with a double to right field. Pitching Coach Dallas Kulhman immediately
changed pitchers by bringing in Ramie Garcia.
Garcia pitched 6 pitches to retire the side on a fly ball to
centerfielder Samantha Zadel who had to run in drop to her knees, catch the
ball and then threw to second for double play.
Garcia then retired the side in the top of the 7th inning for
the save. Chris McGee again pitched a
great game. She faced 19 batters
allowing one run on 3 hits striking out 5 and walking one for the win. Both McGee and Garcia received the MVP for
the tournament.
