This weekend was a big one for the Women's Soccer Program at Phoenix College. Head Women's Soccer Coach Morgan Lee announced the signing of two student-athletes from Westview High School.
Coach Lee also stated, "There is something in these two kids, as well as several others that we have already signed, that you can't teach...They have played together on the same team(s) in the past. Whether it is a club team or high school team, the familiarity and camaraderie is something that we won't have to teach them. They already know each other on and off the field. I am looking at these two young ladies to be major contributors next season and am excited about the progress they will make while at Phoenix College." Both of them will be looking to help out in defensive roles next year. Nicki will we wearing the # 12 jersey, while Julia will be wearing the # 11 jersey. Butler, pictured at left with her mother, signed her NJCAA National Letter
of Intent on Friday, February 11, 2005. Coach Lee states, "Nicki
is going to be a great addition to the 2005 edition of Phoenix College
Women's Soccer. She brings with her a very strong work ethic and the ability
to be very strong and physical on the ball. I see Nicki filling in as
an outside back for us next season."
If
that wasn't enough, Julia Garcia (pictured with her parents to the right)
signed her NJCAA National Letter of Intent on Sunday, February 13, 2005.
"This is so exciting to have recruited another back that plays with
the vigor and commitment that Julia does. Her fiery personality is shown
in her play during the game and that is one of her best attributes,"
says Coach Lee.
