2004 Phoenix College Bears Cross Country Results



MEET #1: GEORGE KYTE CLASSIC

The men's and women's cross country teams began their season Saturday September 4th in Flagstaff running in the George Kyte Classic hosted by Northern Arizona University. Luis Cedillo, Anthony Caglio and Vielito Acuna led the men to a fourth place finish behind NAU, Pima Community College, and Gateway CC. Luis Cedillo placed 20th with a time of 27:52 over 4.87 miles at Buffalo Park. Anthony Caglio, well off last year time of 26:57, ran 27:57 with a sore right foot. Phoenix College won this classic in 2003.

On the women's side, All-American Magaly Burciaga improved forty seconds over last year's time with a very fine early season, and high altitude time of 20:40 over 3.5 miles. Magaly placed eighth overall followed by teammates Jaki Schorer and freshman Vanessa Dean. Our women placed fourth overall behind team champion Northern Arizona University, Yavapai College and Scottsdale Community College. In all 8 teams participated. The ACCAC meet is scheduled for Saturday October 2nd at Tempe Kiwanis Park for both men and women.




MEET #2: ACCAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Both the Phoenix College men's and women's cross country squads took home seventh place at the 2005 ACCAC Championship meet. The women were led by sophomore Magaly Burciaga, who placed second in the event with a time of 19:22.0. This left her 2.5 seconds behind the 2005 ACCAC Champion Sereena Harmon of Paradise Valley.

The Bear men were paced by Vielito Acuna's 27th place finish.


MEET #3: ARIZONA STATE INVITATIONAL

Phoenix College's Magaly Burciaga was the top finishing junior college runner and placed 15th overall with a time of 19:52.9 at the Arizona State Invitational. Luis Cedillo led the Bears' men with a 41st place finish.


MEET #4: CANYON WEST CLASSIC

The Phoenix College Women's Cross Country team finished 4th today in the Canyon West Cross Country meet at Kiwanis Park in Tempe. Magaly Burciaga finished 4th in the Junior College Division. This meet represents the final meet of the regular season. The Bears will compete in the NJCAA Region 1 Championships on October 29th in Scottsdale to qualify for the National Championship held in El Paso, Texas in November.
