2005 Phoenix College Track and Field Outlook

The motto for this year's team is "Attitude is Everything". There are high expectations of the men's and women's team due to 2004's success and a potentially awesome freshmen crew.

Our distance crew will lead the PC women track and field team to success. The women's team will be significantly improved in the sprinters, jumpers, and throws.

Magaly Burciaga returns with All American and All Region honors in the 5000 meters. She completed her cross country career as a Bear with a 10th place finish at the NJCAA National Championships. The 10th place finish earned Burciaga Second Team All-American honors.

Rashawnda Brown comes to Phoenix College from Shadow Mountain High School. Her career at Shadow consisted of a top ten rankings in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Rashawnda is also expected to compete in the heptathlon.

Jessica Shank a 2004 graduate of Ironwood High School was ranked 10th in the State of Arizona in the long jump. Jessica strengths are in jumps and throws.

The experience of the returning student athletes Laura Gierek, Jaki Schorer, and Jennifer Young will be major reason for the success of Phoenix College track and field. New comers Holly Chambers, Vanessa Dean, Christina Gimmie (soccer), Marisa Mitchell, Cassie Redder, Myisha Gray (soccer), Bettina George and Barbara Goe will give depth to the team.

The men's team will display its high powered distance, sprint and jumps crew. We lack depth last year due to injuries and some unforeseen issues; however this year will be one to remember. Versatility and fortitude are two of the greatest assets of this team.

Clarence Dean a sophomore returns as All Region in the 400 meters. Clarence has great versatility in running the 200, 400, and 800 meters. He will also be a vital cog in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays.

Jourdin Holden a sophomore participates in basketball and track. He earned All American honors in the high jump. Jordan will show is versatility by jumping and sprinting.

Alex Easter a sophomore emerged as one the top athletes in the region by placing 2nd 100 meters, 2nd long jump and 3rd 200 meters in the Region finals.

Kevin Marin a freshman had a great career at Cactus High in football and track. He is a wide receiver on the football. Kevin had the fastest time in the State of Arizona in the 300 hurdles and 5th fastest time in the 110 hurdles. Kevin has the skills to compete in the regional finals in the high and intermediate hurdles.

Kenny Springer is graduate of Higley High where he participated in football and track.. He gives us depth to the team in the throwing events

Jaren Parham a sophomore skipped basketball to concentrate on track and field. He will have a strong presence in the hurdles and jumps.

Aaron Gibson a 2004 graduate of Tolleson High School is expected to add serious depth to the sprints and relays.

Julius Strayhand is a product of Moon Valley high schools and was ranked 11th in the State of Arizona in the long jump and 10th as triple jumper. Julius will also sprint and run on the relays.

Vielito Acuna a sophomore is returning to continue his quest for a region title. He will be leading a strong distance crew to successful season.

Mike Smith a sophomore was injured last year, but is consider major threat in the sprints. Jimmie Johnson (football), Brendan Edmund, and Sylvester Brumfield (football) will position the relays to contend for regional titles. Victor Rodriguez and Anthony Caglio return with experience to improve on last years personal records. New comers who will be an asset to the team are Rassaan Fenderson, Brian Carrasquillo, Anthony Boone (basketball), and Jose Lugo
