Chelsie Mesa belted a three-run homer to help Arizona
defeat Tennessee 5-0 to capture the 2007 NCAA Division
I Softball National Champoionship.

Fourth Straight NJCAA Division II National Championship
The Phoenix College
softball squad won the program's fourth straight NJCAA
Division II National Championship with a 5-0 victory
in the deciding game over Johnson County (KS). The
Bears opened the tourney with an 11-1 victory over
Mercer County (NJ), defeated Johnson County 7-5, and
then Mississippi JC 5-1 to advance to the Championship
round with no losses in the double elimination event.
Johnson County scored a 3-0 win over Phoenix to force
the deciding game that the Bears won in the shutout.
PC Head Coach Heinz Mueller was selected the National
Coach of the Year while the Bears' Patricia Moteno

Places Fourth at NJCAA Division I National Championships
Eastern fell 5-4
to North Idaho in the semifinal round for a fourth
place finish in the NJCAA Division I National Championships.EAC's
Melissa Baker was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Sweeps for NJCAA Region 1 Division II Title
Eastern Arizona, the top-seed, edefeated
Central Arizona 11-10 in the Championship game of
the 2007 NJCAA Region 1 Division I Tournament. Eastern,
ranked third in the nation, now advances to the Division
I National Championships in Plant City, Florida, from

Phoenix Wins Region, Looking for 4-Peat
The Phoenix College Bears' softball
program won yet another NJCAA Region I Division II
Championship and advances to the NJCAA National Tournament
where the Bears will be looking for their fourth consecutive
National Championship. The Bears, ranked #1 in the
NJCAA Division II poll, defeated #2 seed Mesa 3-1

seeds Eastern Arizona and Phoenix College will host
the NJCAA Region I Division I and Division II Tournaments,
respectively. Both tournaments begin on Friday, May
4th, and conclude with the title games on Saturday.

Eastern's Brown,
McCluskey Earn Top NJCAA Region I Honors
Eastern Arizona was rewarded with
a great regular season as Marina Gusman Brown was
named the NJCAA Region I Player of the Year and Head
Coach Kate McCluskey was tabbed the NJCAA Region I
Coach of the Year. The Gila Monsters, who completed
the regular season ranked #5 in the nation with a
43-10-3 record, placed two players on the NJCAA's
All-Region I Division I Team while four players earned
All-ACCAC honors. Phoenix College (50-13-0) had six
players selected to the NJCAA All-Region I Division
II Team and five players to earn All-ACCAC honors.

While Pima's Amanda Duran seperated
herself from the pack to earn ACCAC Batter of the
Week honors, a trio of pitchers were selected ACCAC
Co-Pitchers of the Week. Pima's Ashley Ralston, Phoenix
College's Patricia Moreno, and Eastern Arizona's Tiffany
Garofano each recorded a pair of wins to earn the

Lead Teams & ACCAC The
ACCAC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April
15th is Glendale's Stephanie Wheeler, who was 3-0
for the Gauchos on the week. Phoenix College's Emily
Nieman led the Bears to a 3-1 record on the week by
batting .600 to take the ACCAC Batter of the Week

Ralston & Bisgard Pima's
Ashley Ralston was a National Champion killer this
past week with victories over the defending NJCAA
Division I Champion Central Arizona and the NJCAA
Division II Champion Phoenix. The victories led the
ACCAC to honor Ralston as its Pitcher of the Week.
Mesa's Stephanie Bisgard was perfect from the plate
in eight at-bats this past week, belting two homers
and driving in 10 runs, to earn the ACCAC Batter of

Tiffany Garofano went 4-0 this past

ACCAC Again
Sports Two Softball National Champions
If there was any question remaining,
which there should not have been, the top softball
programs in the NJCAA reside in Arizona. For the third
year in a row, the NJCAA Division I and Division II
Ntional Champions are programs in the ACCAC. Pima
captured its second Division I crown in three years
while Phoenix College won its third straight Division
II Championship and fifth in the last seven years.
