Part
1: Case Study
This
course will provide dental professionals, as well as other healthcare providers,
with information to enable them to provide practical, targeted and effective
advice to parents and other healthcare workers about preventing dental disease
in young children. Prevention and early diagnosis are just as important in
managing dental disease, specifically dental caries, as in managing any other
infectious disease.
Dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants, as well as nurses, physicians, physician assistants and all members of the medical team should be integrated as partners in helping families prevent dental disease in young children. Particularly in areas without local dentists or that lack dentists willing to treat very young children, members of the medical team should assume the responsibility and complete the oral screenings on children at periodic preventive healthcare visits.
