Part 1: Case Study

At this point in your meeting with Betsy, you ask her if she is planning to bottle feed or breast-feed her baby. She has advised you that because she needs to return to her job immediately after the birth of her baby since her husband is disabled and cannot work, she will be solely bottle feeding. Your comments to her would be:

to avoid developing a habit that will harm the baby's teeth, do not put the baby to bed with a bottle, prop it in the baby's mouth, or allow the baby to feed "at will"

it is alright to put the baby to bed with the bottle, as long as it does not continue after the age of 12 months

it is alright to put the baby to bed with the bottle, as long as it does not continue after the age of 18 months
