benzoin

C14H12O2    fw=212.25

Hazards

Warning! Harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through skin.
May cause irritation to skin, eyes, and respiratory tract.

May cause irritation, redness, and pain to skin and eyes. May be absorbed through the skin with possible systemic effects.

If inhaled, may cause irritation to the respiratory tract. May cause irritation to the gastrointestinal tract if ingested.
(22)

Emergency Procedures

If inhaled, remove to fresh air. If ingested, give large amounts of water to drink and get medical attention.

If contact is made with skin remove all contaminated clothing and flush skin with water for at least 15 minutes.

If benzoin should get in your eyes immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes, lifting upper and lower eyelids occationally. Get medical attention if any irritation to skin or eyes persists. (22)

Toxicity

Spill Procedure

Remove all sources of ignition. Ventilate area of leak or spill. Clean up spill in a manner that does not disperse dust into the air. To prevent the scattering of airborn dust, moisten with water. Collect and place in a closed container. (22)

Waste Disposal

Dispose with organic solid waste. (4)

Storage

Keep in a tightly closed container, stored in a cool, dry, ventilated area. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product inside. (22)
